What is a Biewer Terrier

The inclusion of this breed has caused much confusion in the dog community. but hopefully a little history can clear up any you may have.

A Biewer Terrier is a relatively new and rare purebred developed through selectively breeding Yorkshire Terriers to bring out a recessive piebald gene. This breed is named after the Biewer couple who lived in Germany and raised Yorkshire Terriers throughout the 1970-1980’s.

Because the breeds origin is the Yorkshire Terrier you will often see some dogs with the same colorations and markings registered as a Yorkshire Terrier and others registered as a Biewer Terrier. For more information on their colorations, size and temperament follow this link to the AKC Webpage.
